Ensure better customer service, says Nasrul

State Minister for Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Nasrul Hamid said that customer service cannot be ensured without professionalism. Distribution companies need to strengthen their own areas of accountability, transparency and competition. 

He made the remarks while addressing a virtual meeting on digitization of power sector on Sunday.

Nasrul said the vision given by the Prime Minister to build a prosperous and developed Bangladesh should be like that of a developed country. As the scope of the power sector grows, so does the sense of responsibility; Customer expectations are also rising. The service needs to be reached to their doorsteps as per the demand of the customers. The electricity connection applied online should be fully digitalized.

Giving instructions to do visible work on cyber security by next June, he said that it is time to strengthen the customer-friendly system by increasing internet connectivity with various services under the Internet of Things (IoT).

The meeting also discussed digital inspections of distribution companies, electricity connection through online application, pre-payment meters, cyber security, physical security and fire security protocols there.

Among others, power secretary Md Habibur Rahman, Engineer Belayet Hossain, Chairman of Bangladesh Power Development Board (BPDB), Major General Moin Uddin (Retd) Chairman of Bangladesh Rural Electrification Board (BREB) and Director General of Power Cell Mohammad Hossain, were attached in the virtual meeting.
