Engagement of students in fighting cybercrimes stressed

Speakers at a seminar on Saturday said that due to the advancement of technology in the modern world, people have become dependent on technology.

All the daily activities are somehow dependent on information technology. Now people can easily connect anywhere in the world within seconds through internet. 

They also said that people are enjoying benefits of technology although some risks remain. Criminals are using this opportunity to commit various online crimes such as cyber fraud, money-laundering, cyberattacks, drug and human trafficking, pornography, hacking, phishing, malware, ransomware, data breach, and cyberbullying. 

To control and prevent all these crimes, Criminal Investigation Department of Bangladesh Police are working tirelessly to create social awareness among the people and bring the criminals to justice.

CID Chief Additional IGP Mohammad Ali Mia said this while addressing the seminar titled "Students’ engagement to combat cybercrime’ organised at the CID headquarters.

He said that participation of students is essential in controlling cybercrimes.

Students are the future of the nation, and they will be the leaders of the nation. Students will act as frontline fighters in the future to prevent cybercrimes like cyberbullying, cyber harassment, unethical content, hacking, phishing, malware, ransomware, he added. 

The CID chief also said that the young generation and students will be active in preventing cybercrimes through digital awareness buildup and will work together with CID in building smart Bangladesh. 

The students who participated in the seminar expressed the hope that after this training, they will act as ambassadors of CID to prevent cybercrimes and inform CID about cybercrimes.

A total of 254 students from Dhaka University, Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology, Jagannath University, BRAC University, North South University, Uttara University, Canadian University Bangladesh and Green University Bangladesh took part in the seminar. 

Muhammad Tauhidul Islam, Additional DIG, Cyber Investigation and Operations, delivered his speech on the activities of the Cyber Police Centre as the main discussant. He discussed the types of recent cybercrimes, what to do, remedies and prevention.

Muhammad Shamshul Haque, Superintendent of Police of Digital Forensics unit of CID, highlighted various aspects of digital forensics through his discussion.

 Professor Dr. Khan Sarfraz Ali, spoke as moderator. In his speech, he discussed his research work on cybercrime. The young students took part in the question-answer and open discussion sessions of the seminar. They also expressed their views on cybercrimes. At the end of the seminar, the CID chief awarded certificates to the participating students. Later, the students visited the forensic labs of CID.
