Kanaighat Samity Dhaka, a platform of people of Kanaighat upazila in Sylhet who live in the capital of Bangladesh; has announced its new committee for the 2023-2024 session.
The 27-member executive committee was announced at a meeting of the platform held at the Shaheed Dr Milon Hall of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU) in the capital on Thursday (May 4).
Engineer Sirajul Islam, a former high official at the Bangladesh Water Development Board (BWDB); and Md. Ehsan-E-Elahi, incumbent secretary at the Ministry of Labour and Employment; were made president and general secretary of the Kanaighat Samity respectively. Md. Shafiul Alam Babul, Dr. Husneara Begum and Prof. Dr. Mohammad Nazrul Islam were made vice presidents at the executive committee.
In the meeting, Kanaighat Samity Dhaka also accorded a reception to Md. Ehsan-E-Elahi for his outstanding contributions to his fields and also for Kanaighat upazila as well as Sylhet.
Advocate AM Amin Uddin, attorney general of Bangladesh; attended the event as the chief guest with Saleh Ahmed, outgoing president of Kanaighat Samity; in the chair. Prof. Dr. Jalalur Rahman, Department of Applied Physics and Electronics (Now Electrical and Electronic Engineering dept); and Anwar Hossain Chowdhury, general secretary of Jalalabad Association and also director general at the Bangladesh Industrial Technical Assistance Centre (BITAC); attended the event as special guests.
Engineer Sirajul Islam delivered the welcome speech, while Md. Mohidur Rahman, a joint secretary at the Ministry of Labour and Employment; Engineer Saiful Islam, a former teacher at BUET; and Abdul Momin Chowdhury, chairman of Kanaighat Upazila Parishad; also spoke on the occasion, among others.
