It is disconcerting to note that health safety guidelines issued by the government to tame the transmission of coronavirus are grossly being ignored by the ordinary people.

The government has already implemented 'No Mask, No Service' policy and directed for conducting mobile court drives to enforce it. However, it is worrying to note that people in public places, offices, factories and markets and transports in the country neither are wearing face mask nor using any hand sanitizer.

No doubt, such violation of government's guidelines on public movement is frustrating government efforts to contain the spread of coronavirus. Therefore, stern action should be taken to compel people to wear face masks and follow health safety guidelines in public places.

Covid-19 infection rate has been swelling in the country and all over the world. Such spike is indeed a wake-up call for us to take necessary preventive measures to contain a fresh corona outbreak. It is time for the government to devise drastic measures based on the experiences garnered from the first wave of the pandemic. If people do not comply with the health safety guidelines, the government must take necessary steps to force them to do so.

We have come to know that police and district administration officials are facing difficulties in order to enforce the government policies and health guidelines due to reluctance of general people. While people around the world have been trying to maintain social distance in a bid to fight Covid-19, it seems many people in Bangladesh just couldn't care less about it to contain further spread of the virus.

We must take the deadly disease seriously because even the developed nations are struggling to stop the spread of the disease despite having the best of resources and technology.
