Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to be in office for his second term after winning a resounding victory. Modi’s policies reflect India’s growing nationalist sentiment and his party Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) defeated Rahul Gandhi's Congress party by a huge margin. BJP has captured over 300 of the 543 seats in parliament whereas the main opposition Congress party is expected to win fewer than 60.

Modi’s combination of nationalist rhetoric and multiple of welfare programmes helped him secure a second successive win. He also bet on national security to be a decisive point in this election. As PM Modi is set to take on his next term as the premier of India, experts are speculating that there is unlikely to be any change in Bangladesh-India relations.

In the past, Mr Modi has demonstrated

 his willingness to cooperate in

 inter-country relations and that

will likely continue in his second

term as  Prime Minister

In the past, Modi has demonstrated his willingness to cooperate in inter-country relations and that will likely continue in his second term as Prime Minister. There is a possibility of him signing a deal regarding sharing of water of the Teesta River after the 2021 provincial elections in West Bengal despite opposition from West Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee.

Furthermore, Modi’s policies on foreign trade have also benefited our country in the last few years. However, administration from both sides must work together to improve economic and cultural relations between the two countries. While we see great strides in terms of social and cultural collaboration, trade relations must also be stressed by our government as a priority to be taken up with India. A better relation between the two countries is likely to improve overall economy of the region and go a long way in establishing a peaceful subcontinent. No doubt we see eye to eye with regard to terrorism in the region. Both countries have shown zero tolerance to this menace that already has taken many innocent lives in the past.

We wish Modi a safe and prosperous journey.
