Covid second wave has been the talk of town and it is rampant in the country. Already hundreds have died since the last half of November and the death toll is only increasing. In all this crisis, it is welcoming to know that the government is prepared with a substantial amount of funds to help with the situation.

According to a report published in this daily, the government is prepared with an  emergency response fund amounting to Tk 5,688 crore in order to tackle the second wave of the Covid-19 pandemic. This huge amount should prove beneficial in improving safety against the pandemic.

Also, the report further elaborates on how Covid-19 Emergency Response and Pandemic Preparedness project involving Tk 1,127.51 crore was approved on an urgent basis to combat the onset of corona infection in the country. Since most of the fund is coming from World Bank and Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank, it can be surmised that a very robust buffer can be created to counter the effects of the second wave of Covid-19.

Experts opine that by changing the prevention and control mechanism, new activities are needed to be included in the project to fight the Covid-19 properly. Such change should also be brought into the everyday lives of people so that the death rate can be deducted by heaps.

We hope that the government is prepared adequately. But being well and healthy in these testing times requires the combined efforts of all. We, being a nation that has strong unity, must unite and create a strong front against the pandemic. Let us be immersed in the national solidarity and triumph over this crisis together, strongly with our heads held high.
