The Embassy of Algeria in Bangladesh hosted a solemn ceremony to mark the 71st Anniversary of the Glorious Liberation Revolution, a defining event in Algeria’s history and its quest for independence and human dignity.

The ceremony took place at Le Méridien Dhaka, drawing a distinguished gathering of high-ranking government and military officials, senior Islamic scholars, civil society leaders, prominent business figures, members of the Chamber of Commerce, academics, think tank experts, media personalities, cultural representatives, and student leaders.

The event began with the national anthems of both Algeria and Bangladesh, performed by the Bangladesh Ansar and VDP team. A minute of silence was observed in remembrance of Algeria’s martyrs, followed by a recitation of the Holy Quran by Alhaz Hafez Kari Mawlana Rofique Ahmad Osmani, Secretary General of Bangladesh Kari Shomity. Ms. Sarah Ines Saidani, daughter of H.E. Dr. Abdelouahab Saidani, recited Surat Al-Fatiha. A solemn prayer was offered by Mr. Anwarul Hoque, Khatib of Gulshan Jame Mosque, seeking divine blessings for peace and prosperity.

In his keynote address, Dr. Abdelouahab Saidani, Ambassador of the People’s Democratic Republic of Algeria to Bangladesh, eloquently described the Revolution of November 1, 1954, as “a timeless beacon of liberty, dignity, and justice that continues to inspire humanity.”

Dr. Saidani emphasized that the Revolution was not merely a political uprising, but a moral and civilizational struggle for freedom, identity, and justice. He honored the sacrifices of the 1.5 million martyrs, stating that their legacy continues to define Algeria’s moral strength and serves as a beacon of inspiration worldwide.

The Ambassador also highlighted the theme of this year’s commemoration, “Message to Generations,” urging youth everywhere to embrace the values of unity, courage, and selflessness that shaped Algeria’s independence.

He reaffirmed Algeria’s dedication to peace, justice, and solidarity, and underscored that the legacy of the Revolution continues to guide Algeria’s foreign policy.

During the ceremony, the Ambassador presented a traditional Bournous, a cherished Algerian garment, to the Chief Guest, Muhammad Fauzul Kabir Khan, Advisor to the Government of Bangladesh for the Ministries of Power, Energy, and Mineral Resources; Road Transport and Bridges; and Railways.

Khan praised the Algerian Revolution, describing it as “one of the most inspiring liberation movements in modern history.”

He highlighted the shared values of freedom, dignity, and resilience between Algeria and Bangladesh, stressing the importance of expanding cooperation in trade, energy, maritime development, education, and cultural exchange.

He expressed Bangladesh’s commitment to strengthening bilateral ties with Algeria, saying, “Our nations stand together — united by friendship, strengthened by shared sacrifice, and driven by a common vision of a just and peaceful world.”

The ceremony continued with a speech by Ilyna Saidani, daughter of the Ambassador, who shared her perspective on the Revolution’s legacy from a younger generation’s viewpoint. Hafeez Mawlana Arif Bin Kamal delivered a moving poem dedicated to Algeria’s martyrs.
