It is heartening to note that construction work on Dhaka Elevated Expressway is progressing fast, ushering optimism about reducing Dhaka’s perpetual traffic congestion. After inspecting the construction work on Dhaka Elevated Expressway in Kawla area, adjacent to Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in the capital, Awami League (AL) General Secretary and Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader on Sunday said the country's first elevated expressway will be launched in September this year to ease traffic congestion in the capital. The minister said Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will inaugurate the Airport-Farmgate section of the now under-construction Dhaka Elevated Expressway in September.
Reportedly, around 97 percent work of the first section up to city's Banani and 54 percent work from Banani to Moghbazar section have been completed. On the other hand, visible work has started on the last part from Moghbazar to Kutubkhali. We have come to know that 63 percent of the total work of this project has been completed so far.
It needs no emphasising that the
country’s largest public-private
partnership project would usher
in a new era of communication
It is worth mentioning that the project starting from the airport will reach up to Kutubkhali of Dhaka-Chattogram highway via Kuril, Banani, Mohakhali, Tejgaon, Mogbazar, Kamalapur, Sayedabad and Jatrabari. We hope, when completed, the elevated expressway will contribute to easing the horrendous traffic congestion that we witness every day in the capital.
It needs no emphasising that the country’s largest public-private partnership project would usher in a new era of communication as it would make travelling from capital’s one point to another much faster and easier. On top of that, it would help commuters save their valuable time as it will take 15-20 minutes to reach Kutubkhali from Airport which now takes more than three hours.
The elevated expressway will help transport a huge amount of goods from the capital to the port city without creating pressure on the present highway, which often remains clogged for long hours. We hope, besides reducing traffic congestion in the capital, the Dhaka Elevated Expressway will contribute to easing transportations of goods and reduce time required for travelling from Dhaka to Chattogram.
