The Dhaka Elevated Expressway, a much-anticipated infrastructure project, has demonstrated promising signs of success in its initial days of operation.

The authorities responsible for its management are optimistic that toll collection on the expressway will see a gradual and steady increase in the coming days.

Since its inauguration, the expressway has experienced a constant flow of vehicles, indicating its growing popularity among commuters seeking a faster and more efficient route through the city’s bustling streets.

Dhaka Elevated Expressway Project Director AHMS Akhtar informed Bangladesh Post that toll collection has already doubled on the second day of the expressway’s operation. This boost in revenue is attributed to drivers becoming more adept at utilizing the expressway to streamline their daily commutes.

At the same time, 14,824 vehicles plied on expressway on Tuesday and from this the toll collection on this day amounted to Tk 1,202,320, confirmed the project director to this correspondent.

According to official data provided by the expressway management, in the past 24 hours, spanning from September 4 at 6 am to September 5 at 6 am, a total of 27,121 vehicles plied the expressway. The breakdown of vehicle usage includes 14300 vehicles from   Airport to Banani, Mohakhali, Farmgate, 3105 vehicles form Kuril to Banani, Mohakhali, Framgate, 2944 vehicles from Banani to Kuril and Airport and 6728 vehicles from Tejgaon to Mohakhali, Banani, Kuril and Airport.

During this period, the expressway collected a total of Tk 2,197,040 in toll fees. Notably, over 90 percent of the vehicles plying on the elevated expressway during its initial days of operation were private cars.

The Dhaka Elevated Expressway has quickly emerged as a relief from the perpetual traffic congestion plaguing the city of Dhaka. The segment of the elevated expressway running from the Airport to Farmgate became operational on Sunday, marking a significant milestone in the city’s transportation infrastructure.

Traffic volume and toll collection on the expressway experienced a noticeable increase on the second day, demonstrating its potential to alleviate traffic woes and enhance connectivity in Dhaka.

As the Dhaka Elevated Expressway continues to gain momentum and commuters become more accustomed to its advantages, it is expected that both toll collection and the usage of this vital infrastructure project will continue to rise, contributing to improved traffic management and reduced travel times in the city.
