Former state minister and BNP standing committeemember Salahuddin Ahmedsaid an electoral 'roadmap' is needed alongside reform of the state.
“Only then will the people of the country understand that the reform process is going on in the country in a democratic way. Only then will the people get back their democratic rights. If this government fails, the people will fail. So, this government cannot be allowed to fail in any way,” he said.
He made the remarks on Tuesday at a press briefing at a hotel in Cox’s Bazar after visiting the office of Cox's Bazar district BNP, which was burnt down allegedly by the miscreants belonging to Awami League during the students' movement on August 4.
The BNP standing committee member, who is exiled from Aynaghar to India, said the victory gained through the unprecedented bloodbath revolution of the students should be meaningful and the country should be presented as a real democratic state.
He said, "Everyone should be aware of internal conspiracies. Order should be restored in the country. The people of the country should enjoy the benefits of democracy regardless of party affiliation.” Salahuddin Ahmed also said, 'Bangladesh should be shown to the world as a rule of law state. As a citizen of a free state, everyone should stand up straight and work together.”
“Besides, those who have made Aynaghar and carried out murders, tortures and massacres have no right to do politics in this country,” he said.
The BNP leader remembered those who were killed during the student movement. His wife and former lawmaker Hasina Ahmed, central BNP’s Fisheries Secretary and former member of parliament Lutfar Rahman Kajol, former whip Shahjahan Chowdhury and district BNP General Secretary Shamim Ara Sapna, among others, were present.
