With only a couple of days left, electioneering for the December 27 Rangpur City Corporation (RpCC) Elections- 2022 has reached its peak in the city braving cooler weather amid a festive environment.

All 260 contesting candidates, including nine for mayoral, 183 for 33 general councilors and 68 for 11 reserved female councilors posts, are making door-to-door public contacts in their last moment poll campaigns.

Meanwhile, the Election Commission is conducting a mock voting campaign in all 33 wards using electronic voting machines (EVMs) to educate voters to cast votes easily.

Voters are showing interest in franchising their rights in the RpCC polls to elect committed and honest candidates having good moral character, better background and educational qualification for desired development.

Local people are expecting a triangular contest for mayoral post among Awami League (AL)-nominated Hosne Ara Lutfa Dalia (Boat), Jatiya Party-nominated Md. Mostafizar Rahman (Plough) and Independent candidate Md. Latifur Rahman (Elephant).

The six other mayoral post candidates are: Amiruzzaman of Islami Andolan Bangladesh (Hand fan), Abu Raihan of Bangladesh Congress (Green coconut), Md. “Voters are eager to vote for Awami League-nominated mayoral post candidate Hosne Ara Lutfa Dalia with the Boat symbol to see their desired development for building a smart RpCC,” he added.

Young voter Rafiul Islam said considering the accounts of uplifts implemented by the present government, voters might choose candidates for the RpCC polls for continuation of developments.

Another voter Quazi Prabal said all developments were done during tenures of the Awami League governments in Rangpur.

“So why, common voters may consider the issue of development and choose the Awami League-nominated mayoral candidate in the RpCC polls for continuation of uplift,” he added.

Awami League-nominated mayoral post candidate Hosne Ara Lutfa Dalia expressed confidence saying that voters would consider huge development works implemented by the Awami League government during the last 14 years in Rangpur.
