As a total of 300 constituencies across Bangladesh will go to 12th parliamentary election on January 7, 2024, different political parties are set to start selling nomination forms among the aspirant candidates.

The ruling Awami League will start selling its nomination forms among the aspirant candidates from today (Saturday). Jatiya Party, which will not join hands with anyone, is also set to field candidates in 300 seats in the upcoming general elections.

With the desire of taking part in the upcoming general election, the Trinamool Bangladesh National Party (Trinamool BNP) welcomed the election schedule. The party is also to field candidates in all 300 seats.

Besides, other political parties have already made preparations to contest in the elections. As election schedule has been announced, the country’s people want the participation of all political parties in the polls.

So, the door of election still remains open for BNP. If BNP joins poll changing its decision, people will welcome the party.

If BNP participates in the poll, the next general election could be seen as a test of the popularity of the Awami League, BNP and other political parties in the run-up to the general elections.

If BNP joins poll changing

its decision, people will welcome

the party

During the election, the Election Commission (EC) controls everything including the army, law enforcement agencies and administration. People have also confidence in the commission so it will have to create a level playing field for all political parties.

We would like to say the EC must make necessary arrangements for holding free, fair, and impartial elections in the country independently and neutrally. In this regard, the EC will have to ensure a level playing field before the allocation of election symbols to the candidates for holding the upcoming general election in a free, fair, and credible manner.

To keep the situation peaceful before and after the election and on the voting day across the country, law enforcement agencies will have to intensify drives to recover illegal firearms, ensure the security of minority groups, and returning and assistant returning officers, make sure that women voters go to polling centres, provide security when election materials will be sent to polling centres and provide police protection for executive and judicial magistrates.

Besides, steps should be taken to create a pre-election peaceful environment and enforce the electoral code of conduct so that all the candidates will get equal opportunities for their election campaign. Special attention should be given to maintain peace and discipline in frontier and remote areas. Separate instructions should also be given so that militant groups cannot raise their heads on the eve of the election.

When a level playing field will be created through a coordinated effort from all, voters will come to the polling centers easily and cast their votes for their choice full-candidates. If any candidate of any political party tries to prevent other political party candidate’s election campaign through attacks or other hooliganism, he or she must be dealt with severely.

Law enforcement agencies must extend all-out support to the commission to deal with any kind of situation centering the national elections. BNP has taken the path of conflict in the name of movement as it wants to foil the upcoming general elections. The polls will be held as per the rules and it will not wait for any one. Those who want elections can never follow such the path of conflict. People still believe the BNP will join the upcoming national polls.  The party’s (BNP) high command should reform the party. This is not the right way to run a political party. It is not possible to foil the poll and oust a government by just chanting slogans on the streets.
