The annual Ekushey Book Fair, for the first time in its history, will begin on February 2, instead of February 1, this year.
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will formally inaugurate the book fair on February 2.
Member secretary of the fair organising committee Dr Jalal Ahmed confirmed this to media. He said, “The Prime Minister's Office has notified us that Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will come to inaugurate the fair on February 2 instead of February 1.”
“So, the fair will be held after the inauguration as Dhaka city polls are rescheduled to be held on February 1,” said Dr Jalal, who is also the director for sales, marketing and reprinting department of Bangla Academy.
Every year, the Amar Ekushey Book Fair was traditionally inaugurated by the premier of the country on February 1.
But, due to the rescheduling of the two city corporation polls from January 30 to February 1, the historic book fair held at Bangla Academy premises and the adjacent Suhrawardy Udyan in the capital has been pushed back by one day to February 2.
