Eid shopping to be safe and secure: DMP chief

Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Commissioner Khandkar Golam Farooq on Tuesday said that the police will be on duty round the clock in all the markets of the capital Dhaka.

He said this while exchanging views at a meeting with businessmen at the conference room of DMP headquarters.

The discussion meeting was held between DMP and the businessmen to review the recent fire incidents in various markets in Dhaka. They also discussed  about the possible  actions to be taken and the security of the markets during the upcoming Eid-ul-Fitr festivals and post-Eid.

A group of businessmen presented their suggestions and proposals in the meeting.

DMP Commissioner said that every market would have measures to prevent fire and necessary preparations to extinguish fire it in case of a sudden fire.  

There should be a detailed map of the areas to enable quick access by the fire service personnel to enter. Such maps or plans should be made public for everyone's convenience, he suggested.

The DMP chief  also said that one of the causes of fire is the use of cheap and substandard electronic products along the old electrical lines. To avoid the risk of fire, he suggested to use quality electronic products.  He also requested traders to install CCTV cameras in markets where there are no CCTV cameras.

The DMP Commissioner also said, “Police will be on alert all the time. He urged the traders to keep in regular contact with the officer in charge of the local police station regarding security of the market. Besides, you can also install IP cameras in the market to monitor the market from.home,he continued 

Meanwhile,Chief of Detective Branch of DMP Muhammad Harun Or Rashid  said intelligence surveillance has been increased in almost all the markets in the capital for security.

The DB chief said, “We are observing that repeated fire incidents are taking place before Eid. Recently, two major fire incidents took place at the same time. The incidents may be sabotage. As a result, intelligence surveillance has been beefed up.”
