Eid shopping gains momentum in Thakurgaon

With only six days left of the holy Eid-ul-Fitr, the largest religious festival of the Muslims, shopping has gained momentum with a huge rush in the markets of the district town.

The buyers are crowding in the city markets here to buy new clothes, cosmetics, shoes and other items for their families with festive mood.

 The district town markets are seen busy selling their Eid items as rush of the customers in city's different shopping centers, which begin in the morning and continue till midnight.

During the day and night on Monday, the shopping malls were visited and the clothes shops were overflowing with women shoppers. People from the surrounding upazilas are coming to the district town for shopping. Most of the buyers are buying sari, three-piece, lehenga, urna, pants piece, shirt piece etc. However, most buyers complain that the price is a bit high. Most of the sales clerks said that the sales have reached their peak after 20 Ramadan compared with the last two years.

Mina Begum, a housewife in a Muslim city who has come to buy new clothes for Eid. She visited several shops and complained that the prices were too high.

Superintendent of Police Jahangir Hossain said the overall law and order situation in the district is good. Adequate security measures have been taken by the district police in the markets to ensure smooth completion of Eid shopping.

The traders expressed satisfaction over the extra security measures taken.
