Eid shoppers rush to silk shops, showrooms in Rajshahi

Rajshahi silk fabric markets are experiencing a huge swarm of customers ahead of ensuing celebration of Eid-ul-Fitr. Specially on Friday, the silk show rooms in Rajshahi were seen to huddled by crowds. 

The customers were scuttling at the fabric shops to purchase an Eid gift for themselves and for their near and dear ones and silk fabric is their prime choice. They were purchasing those gifts intending to hand those over to their relatives and neighbours before the Eid. 

The silk showrooms in BSCIC area of Rajshahi have been enriched with new collections and enchanting designs including Panjabi, Sherwani, one piece, three pieces, shirt, Hijab, Fatua, Urna and scarf. There are also massive collections of Sarees. Customers prefer to visit BSCIC showrooms as those are spacious and customer friendly. 

Shop owners informed, the bargaining and selling at their shops has been increased for the last four to five days. During the Ramadan, they experienced huge customers on Friday. The crowd would further increase on Saturday and after 20th of Ramadan.

Abdul Kader Munna, proprietor of  Rajshahi Silk Fashion, said like previous Eid markets, they were experiencing huge customers and satisfactory sell this year as well. The silk sarees with various brands including Balaka, Katan, Makka and Chi Katan are being sold from Taka 1,000 to Taka 30,000 respectively. Punjabi of various brands are selling at Taka 1,000 to 7,000, Sherwani from Taka 8,000 to 25,000 and Three-pieces from Taka 1,000 to 10,000. 

Latiful Bari, a bank official, said that the Eid was knocking at the door. It was not being possible to visit the market for shopping after days of toil at office and of the fasting of the Ramadan. As a result, he was visiting the market on Friday with his wife and daughters. He purchased silk fabrics from his parents, wife, two sons, one daughter and brothers and sisters. 

Saidur Rahman, Managing Director of Sopura Silk Mills Limited, said that they deal with sufficient customer round the year but during the Eid, the number of wholesale customers increased manifold. From the very first starting of the holy month of Ramadan, wholesale silk fabric traders from various places of Rajshahi, Khulna, Jashore, Kushtia, Pabna, Natore, Bogura, Rangpur, Dinajpur, Naogan and Chapainawabganj thronged to their factory and show rooms to purchase silk fabrics. 

He said that in Sopura Silk Mills limited, various qualities of silk knows as Muslin Silk. Andy Silk, Balaka Silk and Soft silk are being sold from Taka 2,000 to 12,000 while Punajbis are being sold at Taka 3,700 to 8,50 and three pieces are being sold at Taka 2,500 to 10,000. 

Aminul Islam Babu, proprietor of Amera Silk, said that there was a huge turn out of customers at the city silk fabric shops during this season. 

The silk fabric is the first in the choice among many customers but the frequent load shedding posing a threat to their business. During load shedding, customers were not daring to enter into the shops. As a result, their business is being hampered.
