Eid celebrated countrywide amid Covid-19 crisis

The holy Eid-ul-Fitr, one of the largest religious festivals of Muslim Ummah, was celebrated across the country on May 25 less festivity this year amid Covid-19 crisis.

Everywhere people celebrated the day remaining confined inside their houses due to ongoing corona lockdown. All the Eid congregations were held at mosques instead of Eidgah as well as open space as per the directives of the government.

On the Eid day morning, Muslims gather at mosques and prayer venues to perform Eid prayers and greet each other. The festival is usually celebrated by visiting relatives and friends, hosting food parties and sharing sweets. But the festival was celebrated this year by maintaining social distancing, avoiding mass gathering and abiding by the health rules like other world states to avert risk of the fatal Covid-19.

In Chattogram, the Muslim devotees offered Eid prayers in mosques in the city and the districts maintaining physical distance, wearing masks and abiding by the health rules.

A total of 259 Eid congregations, including three at the Jamiatul Falah Mosque (Eid jammats at the same venue with half an hour interval) were held in the port city under the auspices of Chattogram Central Eid Jamaat Committee (CCEJC) and Chattogram City Corporation (CCC) respectively.

Chattogram metropolitan and district police sources said Eid-ul-Fitr jamaats in the city and district were held peacefully maintaining physical distance, wearing masks and abiding by the health rules.

The authority had taken adequate security measures by deploying sufficient law enforcers at various strategic points in the city and districts.

In Khulna, the festival was celebrated in a different way than usual like the rest of the country to prevent coronavirus infection reported our Khulna correspondent, reports our Khulna Correspondent. 

The main Eid congregation of Eid was held at Khulna Town Jame Mosque at 8:00 am maintaining physical distance. Khatib of Town Jame Mosque Maulana Mohammad Saleh led the congregation. 

Besides, the second congregation was held at Town Jame Mosque at 9:00 am and the third and last congregation was held at 10 am.

Eid Jamaat was held in different mosques in 31 wards of Khulna City Corporation with the help of City Corporation under the supervision of ward councilors.

Khulna Divisional Commissioner Md. Anwar Hossain Hawladar, leaders of various political parties, Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Helal Hossain and senior officials of the administration and devoted Muslims participated in the Eid Jamat. 

At the end of the Eid prayers, special prayers were offered for liberation from coronavirus, peace, progress and prosperity of the country, nation and Muslim community.

In Manikganj, two main Eid jamaats were held at Manikganj Collectorate Jame Mosque here under the supervision of district administration. The first Eid jamaat was held at 8.00 am at the mosque conducted by its Khatib Maulana Hafej Mohammad Rafiqul Islam as the second one was organised at 9:00 am.

The other main Eid jamaats were arranged at different mosques including Manikganj Jame Mosque, Baitun Nur Jame Mosque, Baitul Aman Jame Mosque, Beutha Jame Mosque, Debendra College Jame Mosque, Uttar Seota Jame Mosque and Bandutia Jame Mosques between 8:00 am to 10:00 am.

In Thakurgaon, Eid prayers were not performed at Thakurgaon Central Eidgah in the current situation. However, the devotees have performed Eid prayers in the central mosque following the hygiene rules and social distance, reports our Thakurgaon Correspondent. 

The first Eid prayers were offered at 8:00 am at the Thakurgaon Central Jame Mosque. Three congregations were held there. Imam of the mosque Maulana Alhaj Md. Khalilur Rahman led the first Eid prayers at the Central Jame Mosque in Thakurgaon. 

After the prayers, Thakurgaon Deputy Commissioner KM Kamru­zzaman Selim gave Eid greetings.

At the end of the greeting speech, special prayers were offered for the liberation of the country and the nation from the Corona virus.

In Netrakona, the main EID congregation was held at Netrakona central Jam-E-Mosque at 9:00 am conducted by chief imam of the mosque Moulana Azizur Rahman, reports our Netrakona Correspondent. 

State Minister for Social Welfare Ashraf Ali Khan Khasru MP, Mayor of Netrakona municipality Nazrul Islam Khan, district Awami League leaders, civil society members, journalists and a large number of devotees offered prayer there by maintaining three feet distance from each other and abiding by other health safety rules. 

Another biggest Eid congregation was held at the Mazer Sharif mosque of reputed Muslim saint of the sub-continent Hazrat Shah Sultan Kamaruddin Rumi (RA) in Modanpur area. Other Eid congregations were held in the morning at different mosques here including Miftaulum Madrasha mosque, Alia Madrasa mosque, district collectorate and upazila Jam-E-Mosques.
