The bi-polls to ward number 7 of Abaipur union parishad in Shailkupa upazila in Jhenaidh was held peacefully on Saturday.
Ehsanul Kabir with the symbol Football was elected as the member securing 543 votes, while hie nearest candidate Ranju Mia with the symbol Cock bagged 393 votes.
Upazila election officer, also the returning office (RO) of the bi-polls Taizul Islam when contacted said the position of the ward member was vacant when Habibur Rahman Ripon was stabbed to death by a gang of miscreants in the night of October 16 last at Mingram intersection when he was returning on bicycle along with his associates.

The RO said the number of voters in the ward was 1,439 including 721 women where the voters started casting votes since 8 in the morning. Turn out of the voters was 65 percent when 936 voters had cast their votes, RO said.
