‘Effective cooperative to face poverty’

Speakers at a post-rally discussion here on Saturday called for infusing dynamism into the cooperatives as it’s very much effective towards freeing the nation from the curse of poverty and hunger, reports BSS.

They urged for finding effective ways and means to attain strength and prosperity in every sphere of national life and for making the cooperatives movement a total success.

The Department of Cooperatives and District Cooperatives Union jointly organized the discussion at Shaheed AHM Kamaruzzaman Zila Parishad Auditorium in the city to mark the 48th National Cooperatives Day-2019.

‘Philosophy of Bangabandhu, Development in Cooperatives’ was the main theme of this year’s day. Mayor of Rajshahi City Corporation AHM Khairuzzaman Liton and Additional Commissioner of Rajshahi division Zakir Hossain addressed the discussion as the chief and special guests respectively with Deputy Commissioner Hamidul Haque in the chair.

Deputy Commissioner of Rajshahi Metropolitan Police Ameer Jafar, Divisional Joint Registrar of the Department of Cooperatives Golam Sarwar and Superintendent of Police Md Shahidullah also spoke. Mayor Liton stressed the need for strengthening the cooperatives movement everywhere in the society, mentioning that cooperatives can play a big role in the country’s development.

He added that if the cooperatives’ movement can be carried out properly, then the country will develop faster to materialize the spirit of the War of Liberation and ensure social security.

Liton also emphasized the importance of training youths to be good human resources to potentially end unemployment in the region.

Earlier, a colourful procession of officials and employees of different government departments, leaders and activists of cooperative organisations, socio-cultural activists, civil society members and the local elite paraded the city streets.
