Education will be the next mega project under the leadership of Bangabandhu’s daughter Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, said Education Minister Dr Dipu Moni.
“We have challenges and possibilities. Education is the key to tackling challenges and exploiting the potential. The government is investing in that education and will invest a lot more in the coming days,” she said.
The Education Minister said that Bangabandhu had instructed to invest four percent of the average national income in education.
“We are still not able to invest more than three percent. However, we will definitely be able to do it in the coming days,” she added.
She made the remarks while addressing the 1st convocation of Sonargaon University at Bangabandhu International Conference Center in the capital on Wednesday.
The Minister said, “There is a cost to study at the university. In public universities, the government bears that cost. Students and their parents bear that cost at private universities. Nothing is absolutely free. We also need to pay attention to the value of education.”
She also mentioned that Bangabandhu had repeatedly said that poverty should never be an obstacle in the way of higher education for any meritorious student, and the government should bear that cost.”
“The government is committed to this. So we have to think about spending on education. The matter has to be brought to a logical stage,” she said.
The Minister said that there is a huge potential of the fourth industrial revolution (4IR) in front of us.
“When those who are studying in primary school today will enter the world of work, 65 percent of the jobs that are available now will no longer exist. That means more new work will emerge in front of us. It is our duty to discover that and prepare ourselves accordingly,” she said.
Dipu Moni further said that there will be no opportunity to return to the campus to learn something new again after being engaged in work.
“There should be opportunities for blended education. If the Prime Minister approves, we will start the work of implementing blended education at all levels of education,” she added.
