The government has extended the ongoing closure of educational institutions in the country till February 14 considering the safety of the students amid coronavirus pandemic.
However, Qawmi madrasas will be exempted from this directive.
Education Minister Dipu Moni confirmed this on Friday following discussion with all stakeholders, said a press release signed by Mohammad Abul Khair, public relations officer of the Ministry of Education.
On March 16, 2020 the government decided to keep all the educational institutions closed from March 17 to 31, aiming to prevent the spread of the deadly coronavirus. No formal classes have been held since that day.
Later, in several steps, the Education Ministry extended the time of the closure till January 3o this year.
The education ministry also cancelled final examinations for primary and secondary level students, as well as the Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC) and its equivalent examinations.
Educational activities of about four crore students from primary to tertiary level are being hampered due to coronavirus crisis.
On March 29 last year the government introduced online education through Sangsad TV for secondary students so that students can make up the losses due to closure of the educational institutions.
Later, on April 7 last year the government also started TV education for primary students, and on April 19, for technical and madrassa students.
