‘Economic zone will play major role’

Principal Secretary to Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina Dr Ahmed Kaikaus during his visit in Chattogram has said that all economic zones of the country, including Bangabandhu Industrial City in Mirsarai, will play a role in building ‘Shonar Bangla’ of Bangabandhu's dream. 

He said this while inspecting various important development activities including the industrial city on Thursday.

At the time, Dr Ahmed Kaikaus said, under the direction of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, economic zones are being developed as part of planned industrialization across the country, with Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Industrial City getting priority.  

This economic zone will play the most important role in the implementation of Bangabandhu's dream Sonar Bangla and Bangabandhu's daughter's vision of building a developed and prosperous Bangladesh-2041. 

He was accompanied by Bangladesh Economic Zone Authority (BEZA) Executive Member (Planning and Development) (Additional Secretary) Irfan Sharif, Chittagong Divisional Commissioner Md Kamrul Hasan, Chittagong Deputy Commissioner and District Magistrate Mohammad Mominur Rahman and other BEJA senior officials. 

The high-level government delegation also inspected the development work of Baratakia to Mirsarai Economic Zone connecting road, construction of 150 MW power plant, electric grid sub-station, water supply facility, gas supply facility and Beja administrative building.

Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Industrial City is being built on about 30,000 acres of land in Mirsarai and Sitakunda Upazilas of Chittagong and Sonagazi Upazila of Feni.  This industrial city will create employment opportunities for 1.5 million people.
