The Election Commission (EC) has started holding a series of dialogues with the registered political parties from Sunday, which will continue till July 31 next. All the political should respond to the EC’s call and join the dialogues in order to reach a political consensus in the 12th parliamentary polls. Besides, country’s eminent personalities, intellectuals, academics and experts should also apply their wisdom and knowledge to make political parties understand why they should join the talks.

Bangladesh is constitutionally a multi-party democratic republic and election is the key for continuation of the country’s democracy. Therefore, it is very important for the EC to create a level playing field so that all the political parties, especially the major parties can participate in the elections without any hesitation. But the constitutional body cannot compel any political party to contest the national polls.

The EC is repeatedly requesting political parties to take part in the dialogue and next polls as well.

But we are noticing that some political parties especially Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) in collaboration with different vested elements are deliberately making the constitutional body questionable. Parties’ senior leaders have already made their stand clear that they would not contest the national polls under the incumbent EC and government. Sometimes they demand a non-party caretaker government, sometimes neutral government and now they want a national government. It seems that they actually do not know what they really want regarding the poll-time government.

All know the national government proposed by BNP will be formed with anti-Bangladesh clique and enemies of the country, including Razakars, Al Badars and Jamaat. They are also spreading falsehood that Bangladesh will face the situation as that of Sri Lanka. The politics of BNP is no longer in the field as now they are visiting foreign embassies at night and doing parties. They did the same thing in 2014 and 2018.

BNP-Jamaat clique should keep in mind that no more caretaker government will be formed in Bangladesh since the country’s apex court declared the system illegal. Elections are held under ruling party all over the world through which democracy is established. The election-time government will just perform the routine works.

Country’s people imbued with spirit of Liberation War believe the next national election will be held in a free, fair and neutral manner. The EC will also play a strong role in fulfilling its duties as a constitutional institution.

The government has already strengthened the country’s electoral system to hold a fair, free and impartial election. Country’s all people want to see the 12th national election will be a competitive one.

Therefore, all political parties should provide full cooperation to EC and join the talks.
