EC official killed in Dhaka road crash

An official of the Election Commission office in Uttara of Bangladesh capital Dhaka died at Dhaka Medical College Hospital midnight past Wednesday, hours after he met a fatal accident at Bimanbandar area in the capital.

The victim,  Md Al Mamun, 48, of village Akashi under Saturia in Manikganj, was an executive officer of Uttara EC office. He used to live in a rented apartment on Tajmahal Road in Mohammadpur in the city.

Mamun met the accident at about 9:00pm on Wednesday when he lost control over his motorcycle’s steering, said his son Riad Hossain.

Riad said that his father was immediately rescued by the pedestrians and was rushed to Kurmitola General Hospital, and as his condition deteriorated he was shifted to Dhaka Medical College Hospital where he died at about 12:00 night following Wednesday.

Riad said that his father met the fatal accident when he was riding motorcycle to return home in Mohammadpur area from Uttara.

DMHC police-outpost in-chage Bachchu Mia said that Mamun’s body was sent to the hospital morgue for post-mortem examination.

Meanwhile, a man was killed when a bus hit a motorbike on Mayor Mohammad Hanif Flyover at Jatrabari area in the capital on Thursday.

The deceased was identified as Sharif Hossain, 38, son of Mosharraf Hossain of Sutrapur area.

The accident took place around 9:00 am when the bus of ‘Desh Travels’ knocked the motorbike on the flyover, leaving Sharif dead on the spot.

Being informed, police recovered the body and sent it to the local hospital morgue for autopsy.

Police arrested the driver of the bus and seized the bus.
