The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) has arrested two individuals, including a computer operator-cum-office assistant of the Election Commission (EC), on allegations of forging National Identity Cards (NIDs) and selling citizens' confidential information to earn more than Tk1 crore illegally every month.
The information was disclosed in a short notice issued by the CID.
The arrests were made following an investigation into a network involved in NID-related fraud and the unauthorised sale of sensitive personal data, reads the notice.
The CID has arranged a media briefing to disclose details of the case, at 1pm on Thursday at the media centre located at its headquarters in capital's Malibagh, according to CID Special Superintendent of Police Jasim Uddin Khan.
