Election Commissioner Md Anisur Rahman said on Wednesday there is nothing to worry about the next parliamentary polls as the Election Commission has almost completed all preparation to hold the polls in the stipulated time frame.
However, he hopes that everyone will participate in the upcoming national election.
“There is nothing to worry about the next general election as we have completed all kinds of preparation for holding the polls within stipulated time frame. We have invited all the 44 parties registered under the Election Commission to participate in the elections,” he said while speaking to journalists after a meeting with Brahmanbaria polling officials at the district Shilpakala Academy on Wednesday.
“We had a dialogue with them. Some did not respond to our calls. We have called them again,” he also said.
“We want voters to come. If voters turn up, it will be considered a participatory election. We are hoping that everyone will come to the election,” the election commissioner added.
He said political parties also have the responsibility to participate in the election.
“It is not the responsibility of the commission or its officials and returning officers to bring the voters to the polling centres,” Anisur said.
“Voter presence is the responsibility of the candidates. Our responsibility is to create an environment. There will be no lacking from our side,” Md Anisur Rahman said.
“We cannot solve political issues nor is it our mandate. We will create a conducive environment,” he added.
Stating that there is nothing to worry about the upcoming 12th Jatiya Sangshad elections, Md Anisur Rahman said the election schedule will be announced soon.
“All the preparations for the election are almost done. Elections will be held on time,” he added.
EC officials said the EC has already completed the major tasks including updating voter list and re-fix of parliamentary delimitation ahead of the next general polls, amendments of the Representative of People Order (RPO) and the election related laws have been finalised.
Setting up the polling centres is also in the final stages. A draft list of 42,380 polling centres has been drafted. The final list of the polling centres will be published as a gazette when the polls election schedule is announced.
The commission has also given registration to two new political parties ahead of the election. Sixty six local organisations have been registered as election observers.
