Eating out in Shillong city is a common tradition for visitors, especially for breakfast in the morning and evening eating.

Every morning and evening, Shillong centre point turns into a mini floating restaurant for people who have a craving for eating out on vacations.

After waking up in the morning, visitors go to these mini floating restaurants and have their breakfast. Normally what people opt for are puri, paratha, dal-shobji, egg. But, if you have a habit of taking sips in the morning there are options for tea and coffee as well. Other than these there are many other light items which can be gotten in a reasonable price.

After having breakfast, tourists generally start looking into visiting tourist spots and start their journey by bus or car to see the picturesque view from different places in Shillong.

In the evening people return to the mini restaurants to take some light food.

These mini restaurants usually stay for three to four hours in the morning and four to five hours in the evening. People bustle around this food hub as a result the people who operate these eating venues can earn from three to five thousand Indian rupees per day. Many restaurant owners say that this is the main source of income for them.
