Top leaders and members of Sammilito Somonnoy Front of Bangladesh Association of International Recruiting Agencies (BAIRA) yesterday organized a demonstration at Hotel Bengal Blueberry in the city with a view to cancelling the syndicate system in exporting manpower to Malaysia as well as keeping the labour market open for all the valid recruiting agents.

BAIRA played vital role to boost manpower export since 1994 and BAIRA conducted direct election process to run the organization accordingly, they opined. The organization did not hold election from last two terms specifically 2016-18 and 2018-20 due to the pressure of the syndicate members.  The leaders of Sammilito Somonnoy Front demanded for conduction the election of BAIRA promptly with a view to ensuring accountability and transparency in exporting manpower.

Currently, 1.25 crore expatriates are working in oversea countries and they are sending their hard earned money in the name of remittance inflow in the country. The contribution of the manpower sector is above 12 percent to country’s gross domestic product (GDP). While speaking on the occasion, Dr Mohammed Faruque expressed his dissatisfaction and deep concern over the syndicate base manpower export system to Malaysia.

He disclosed various information on the 10 syndicate members those are destroying the manpower export market to Malaysia.

He said that the syndicate members are responsible for conducting the money laundering incidents. In 2016, the syndicate members are involved in conducting capital flight worth over thousand crores. It was decided to export some 15 lac manpower in 2016, but only 2.75 lac workers enter the labor market mainly for the widespread corruption of the syndicate members, he claimed.

The syndicate members are charging extra money from the job seekers. It was supposed to pay Tk 37,000 for migration charge, but the syndicate members took almost Tk 4 lac from each migrant worker.

On the other hand, the syndicate members conducted huge illegal medical business to take the opportunity of the pandemic.  According to various media reports and Malaysian government document, some 25 recruiting agencies are allowed to conduct manpower export to Malaysia.

Dr Mohammed Faruque urged all to support the Sammilito Somonnoy Front for tackling the unethical activities of the syndicate members because Sammilito Somonnoy Front always practices the fair process to boost country’s manpower export.
