Families of Jhalakathi launch fire victims will get Tk 150,000 each in financial assistance.
State Minister for Shipping Khalid Mahmud Chowdhury on Friday said families of those killed in Jhalakathi launch fire will get Taka 1.5 lakh each as compensation. The state minister came up with the assertion after inspecting the burnt launch at Jhalakathi on Friday afternoon.
He also said, “The government will bear expenses for treatment of the injured passengers.”
Earlier, the state minister enquired about the health condition of the injured people, who are undergoing treatment at Barisal Sher-e-Bangla Medical College Hospital and Jhalakathi Sadar Hospital.
Divisional Commissioner of Barisal Saiful Hasan Badal and Chairman of Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Authority (BIWTA) Commodore Golam Sadeque were present at the time.
Some 40 people were killed and more than 70 sustained burn injuries when a passenger launch caught fire in the Sugandha river in Jhalakathi in the wee hours of Friday.
