The Civil Aviation Authority of Bangladesh (CAAB) and the Department of Immigration and Passports (DIP) on Wednesday laid emphasis on expanding e-gate facilities at major airports in the country.

It was discussed at a meeting held between CAAB Chairman Air Vice-Marshal Md Monjur Kabir Bhuiyan and DIP Director General Major General Md Nurul Anwar at the CAAB headquarters in the capital on Wednesday.

They held extensive discussions on the performance of existing e-gates at Terminals 1 and 2 of Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport (HSIA) and explored prospects for installing e-gates at the Third Terminal to streamline immigration processes and enhance passenger experience.

Highlighting the importance of integrating modern technology in airport operations, both sides stressed the need for expanding e-gate infrastructure as part of broader efforts to improve efficiency and ensure international-standard immigration services.

The upcoming launch of international operations at Cox’s Bazar Airport also brought the prospect of installing e-gates there into sharp focus during the meeting.

In view of Cox’s Bazar Airport’s forthcoming inauguration as an international airport, the meeting also discussed the potential installation of e-gates at the facility.
