Nature study organisation Tarupallab observed the 2nd anniversary of death of Ekushey Padak winning eminent naturalist Professor Dwijen Sharma on Sunday at Sufia Kamal Auditorium of Bangladesh National Museum.
Dwijen Sharma founded Tarupallab in 2008.
Environment, forests and climate change minister M Shahab Uddin was present as the chief guest, while writer Selina Hossain, Bangla Academy former director general Professor Shamsuzzaman Khan and eminent writer-essayist Mofidul Hoque, among others, were present as special guests at the event.
The discussants spoke on the life and works of Dwijen Sharma.
“Dwijen Sharma was a nature lover. He dedicated his life to research. He encouraged the younger generation for planting trees. The government has taken an initiative of planting 10 million trees across the country marking the 100th birth anniversary of country’s founding president Sheikh Mujibur Rahman in 2020,” said M Shahab Uddin.
“Dwijen Sharma had planted a lot of trees at Ramna Park. He liked to study trees and wrote a number of books on nature and trees,” said Mofidul Hoque.
Tarupallab honoured professor of Jahangirnagar University Monowar Hossain with Dwijen Sharma Nature Award.
Dwijen Sharma passed away at the age of 88 while undergoing treatment at City Hospital in Dhaka on September 15, 2017.
He penned a number of books including ‘Shyamoli Nishorgo’, ‘Green Nature’, ‘Samajtontre Bosobas’, ‘Living in Socialism’, ‘Jiboner Shesh Nei’, ‘Phoolgulo Jeno Kotha’ and others.
