Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson reacts to fan support for his first DC Extended Universe film, DC League of Super-Pets. Ahead of his highly anticipated debut as Black Adam, Johnson voices Superman’s dog, Krypto, in Warner Bros./DC’s new animated film, DC League of Super-Pets, which released in theaters on July 29. In addition to Johnson, its star-studded cast includes Kevin Hart as Ace, Keanu Reeves as Batman, John Krasinski as Superman, Kate McKinnon as the guinea pig Lulu, and Marc Maron as Lex Luthor. Vanessa Bayer, Natasha Lyonne, and Diego Luna fill in the rest of the titular League.

of Super-Pets is inspired by the DC Comics title Legion of Super-Pets, which originally appeared in Adventure Comics #293 in February 1962. The film follows Krypto the Super-Dog, Ace the Bat-Hound, and their team of super animals on a mission to save Superman, Batman, and the rest of the Justice League. Facilitated by its animated nature, DC League of Super-Pets' storyline has been deemed charming, family fun, and the response to it has been largely positive.

Johnson recently took to his official social media and thanked all the families who saw DC League of Super-Pets this weekend. According to CinemaScore, audiences gave the film an A- rating, which is one of the few As The Rock claims to have received throughout his life. "THANK YOU to all the families and so happy you loved our #SuperPets," he wrote.

On top of CinemaScore’s A-, DC League of Super-Pets had a box office debut of $23 million, topping Jordan Peele’s Nope and Marvel Studios’ Thor: Love and Thunder. While it did take the top spot, it performed worse than Pixar's Lightyear at the box office. However, it does look like those who ventured out to see Krypto and his band of heroic pets this weekend had a good time, which bodes well for DC League of Super-Pets' future. The film also currently holds 72% critics and 89% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes. It could be that word of mouth will help DC League of Super-Pets find a broader audience. In terms of 2022 superhero movies, it has earned the best CinemaScore yet, tied only with DC's own The Batman. That is an impressive achievement.

While DC League of Super-Pets is geared towards younger audiences, Johnson's next DC outing, Black Adam, is said to put its titular character’s brutality on display. Ironically, Johnson has repeatedly expressed a desire to see his DC anti-hero go toe-to-toe with Henry Cavill’s Superman, even after playing the Man of Steel’s dog. Between DC League of Super-Pets and Black Adam, Johnson is really working on both ends of the superhero spectrum, and it will be interesting to see which movie is a bigger hit with audiences when all is said and done. If DC League of Super-Pets’ A- and rocky box office numbers are any indication, he’s off to an above average start. -Screen Rant
