While addressing the oath-taking ceremony of newly elected public representatives, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina asked them to serve the people to get their support again in the next elections. So, providing service for the countrymen is the main job of the public representatives.
Mayors of two city corporations - Cumilla and Mymensingh- and chairmen of five Zila Parishads, and councillors of Mymensingh City Corporation took oath at the Prime Minister’s Office in the capital Dhaka. People elected them to work for their welfare, so it is their moral duty to serve the people. And if they do so, people will trust them and keep faith on them. The public representatives must pay special attention to public service.
They will have to work with utmost sincerity for the welfare of the people. They [public representatives] must not lose trust of the people.
The public representatives should always work for the people standing by them. In the history of Bangladesh, Awami League led by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has been running the country for 15 years and three months. Bangladesh has achieved unprecedented development during the period thanks to the country’s stable democracy.
By this time, Bangladesh is graduating from the least developed country into a developing country. Now implementation of AL’s electoral pledges will be the big challenges for the party. Smart Bangladesh has four pillars - Smart Citizens, Smart Government, Smart Economy, and Smart Society. So, the government will have to work in every field to make Bangladesh a smart country.
The record fourth straight term of the ruling Awami League began in January. All believe the AL government would materialise all the electoral pledges and give the people an improved and better life.
Therefore, the public representatives have to work for implementing the electoral pledges, based on which they assumed power. The government made development in every area of the country and grassroots people are the the focus of development.
Public reps will have to
work with utmost
sincerity for
the welfare of the people.
Every village will be transformed into a town. A radical change has already been made there. We believe the pubic representatives in association with the local lawmakers and administration will attach their highest priority to the welfare of the people. Therefore, every mayor, zila or upazila chairman will have to work for the people in their respective areas. And they will have to ensure that there is balanced development in their areas. The public representatives will have to work for the people and continuation of the pace development by keeping the promises they made before the people.
Our country would finally be graduated as a developing country in 2026. So, all public representatives will have to stand by the people with sincerity, serve them and work for them maintaining the socio-economic development.
We the general hope that public representatives will pay attention to welfare of the people so that they can avail themselves all services properly. Members of Parliaments (MP), mayors, zila parshad chairmen, upazila chairmen, union parishad chairmen and councillors in association with local administration will also raise public awareness to exercise austerity in using water and electricity as well as encourage people to increase food production.
They will also have to take measures to conserve water bodies - rivers, canals, beels and ponds. Besides, they have to improve waste management system in their respective areas to protect environment. The public representatives will also be vigilant to keep the young generation away from corruption, drug abuse, militancy and terrorism.
We think the local body polls strengthen the pillars of democracy at the grassroots, increasing scope of accountability and thus augments development activities at marginal level.
We strongly believe that our country will turn into a developed nation if the public representatives cooperate with Sheikh Hasina-led government in advancing the country further.
