Chittagong Metropolitan Police (CMP) Commissioner Hasib Aziz BPM said in a coordination meeting they will take every possible measure so that the Hindu community can celebrate their largest religious festival Durga Puja in a festive and peaceful manner.
The meeting was held at the multipurpose shed of Dampara police lines in the city on Wednesday afternoon to maintain law and order on the occasion of the autumn Durga Puja. It was presided over by Chittagong Metropolitan Police (CMP) Commissioner Hasib Aziz BPM.
There are 277 puja mandap in 16 police stations including the main puja mandap JM Sen Hall in Chittagong city.
The meeting discussed overall issues including maintaining peace and order during the puja parishad, security of puja mandap, traffic management, fire safety, medical services, electricity and water supply. Representatives of various departments present at the meeting highlighted their respective tasks.
CMP Commissioner said, they have already taken a coordinated plan for all issues including security of puja mandap, traffic management, fire safety, electricity and water supply. With the active cooperation of law enforcement agencies, administration, media, Puja Udjapan Parishad and city residents, this year's Durga Puja will be a peaceful, safe and joyful festival for everyone.
He said that the police have taken several levels of security measures on the occasion of Durga Puja. During the puja, idol immersion and post-puja security measures have been taken. Puja-centric police security activities have already started. Some instructions have also been given by the CMP. The army, naval police, fire service and other concerned parties will be in cooperation.
At the end of the meeting, the CMP Commissioner thanked the representatives of the concerned departments and the leaders of the Puja Udjapan Parishad and expressed hope that the autumn Durga Puja will be completed smoothly and safely through the joint efforts of everyone.
CMP Additional Police Commissioner (Crime and Operations) and Additional In-charge (Finance and Administration) Md. Humayun Kabir were present at the time; Additional Police Commissioner (Traffic) Md. Asfiquzzaman Akhtar, along with other senior officers of CMP, district administration, army, Chittagong City Corporation, Fire Service, Chittagong Port Authority, Railways, department, Power Development Board, WASA, Ansar-VDP, media representatives and leaders of the Metropolitan Puja Udjapan Parishad, representatives of relevant departments.
