Durga Puja, the biggest religious festival of the Bangalee Hindu community, will be celebrated at 562 mandaps in three upazilas in Narail this year.
Huge preparations are being taken to celebrate Durga festival in a joyfulness and festive manner this year like other years.
A preparatory and law and order related meeting was held at the conference room of the deputy commissioner on Thursday to celebrate Sharodiya Durga Puja Utsab with due joyfulness and religious fervor.
The meeting was presided over by Narail Deputy Commissioner Sharmin Akter Jahan. Several other government officials, political leaders, coordinator of Anti-Discriminatory Student Movement, Puja Celebration Committee members and others were also present there.
The Deputy Commissioner said if anyone tries to create any disturbance or carry out anything wrong centering Sharodiya Durga Utsab, he will be brought to the purview under the law and punished. Bangladesh is a country of communal harmony. Police and Ansar VDP members will be deployed to maintain law and order at each mandap. Along with the law enforcement agencies, volunteers on behalf of the Puja Utjapan Parishad will also work at each mandap to ensure overall safety.
Sources said Durga Puja will be held at 244 mandaps in Sadar Upazila, 167 mandaps in Kalia Upazila and 151 mandaps in Lohagora Upazila of Narail this year. The making and beautifying of idols are going on at every mandap. The festival festival will be celebrated from 9 October to 13 October.
