With just one days left for Durga Puja, the biggest religious festival of the Hindu community, preparations are going on in full swing in the district to celebrate the festival with due religious fervour and traditional enthusiasm.
The five-day Sharadiya Durga Puja will formally begin today with Maha Shasthi, and conclude on October 2 with the immersion of the idols on Bijoya Dashami.
The District administrations and Puja Udjapan Committee have taken comprehensive steps to ensure smooth and peaceful celebration of the festival.
District Puja Udjapan Committee President Advocate Pankoj Bihari Ghosh Anna said preparations have been completed at 524 puja mandaps, including 239 in Sadar upazila, 144 in Lohagora upazila and 141 mandaps in Kalia upazila to celebrate Durga Puja in a joyous manner.
"District police have stepped up intelligence surveillance and are closely monitoring the overall situation to celebrate the puja peacefully. CCTV cameras have been installed in important mandaps for celebrating the religious festival peacefully in the district," he added.
Narail Deputy Commissioner (DC) Sharmin Akhter Jahan said the district administration has allocated 500 kilograms of rice for each mandap. If anyone tries to create a disturbance or carry out any misdeeds during the Sharadiya Durga Puja, he will be brought under the law and exemplary punishment .
To ensure overall security, volunteers from the Puja Udjapan Committee will also work at each mandap." I hope there will be no problems anywhere," the DC added.
Superintendent of Narail Police Md. Rabiul Islam said, "Male and female Ansar members will be on duty at each Puja Mandaps. Police will be deployed at important mandaps. In addition, traffic police will be on duty to resolve traffic congestion. I hope no untoward situation will happen during the festival in the district."
