Dumba rearing has begun commercially at Kushaghata village at Damurhuda upazila in Chuadanga under the auspices of Wave Foundation

According to sources, Wave Foundation has set up a farm on 42 bighas of land at the village. The foundation made an artificial desert at their farm for rearing Dumba and bought 6 Dumbas from Sadek Agro of Dhaka worth about tk. 8,00,000 in 2019. The Dumba delivered four kids in the meantime.

The dumbas are living on grass, jackfruit leaves, multi-vitamin, peels of mustered, maize, chickpeas and wheat. They move inside the fence of the farm and take grasses and others.

It is learnt that people including children and women come here to see the dumba. They are very happy to see the animals. Many of them are also eager to rear these animals themselves.

It may be mentioned here that dumba could be reared as like black goats and sheep of Bangladesh.

In addition, an artificial desert have to make using sands inside the farm for Dumba.

Dr Tuhin Mia, coordinator of the farm said, “We are rearing Dumba at first in the district of Chuadanga. No body rears it in the area. It is matured after 4 years. About 100 kgs is weight per Dumba worth over Tk. 2,00,000.”

Dr Mosiur Rahman, livestock officer of Damurhuda, said that rearing of Dumba is more profitable than goats and rams. No atmosphere problems to rear the Dumba in the areas. Now the livestock department has been advising the farmers and initiators to rear dumba in Chuadanga district.
