DUET observes Mujibnagar Day

Historic Mujibnagar Day was observed in Dhaka University of Engineering and Technology (DUET) with various programs and due dignity on Sunday.

On the occasion of the day, teachers, students, officials and staff of the university laid wreaths at the portrait of the Father of the Nation at the main gate of the university and paid homage to Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, under the leadership of Vice Chancellor Dr M Habibur Rahman.

After that, a discussion meeting on 'Historic Mujibnagar Day and Independence of Bangladesh' was held at the Shaheed Ahsan Ullah Master auditorium of the University.

Speaking as the chief guest at the discussion meeting, Dr M. Habibur Rahman said, “April 17 is a glorious day in the history of Bangladesh. The government of independent Bangladesh took an oath on this day and set an unforgettable precedent in the world. At that time the government was formed in a systematic and democratic way as a result of Bangabandhu's close associates following the ideals and instructions of the Father of the nation.”

He said that in order to build patriotism and unity in the country, we have to highlight the ideology and life struggle of Bangabandhu. 

“To make the development of the present government more people-oriented and sustainable, good governance, social justice, transparency and accountability must be ensured,” he added. Pro-Vice Chancellor Prof Mohammad Abdur Rashid highlighted the significance of the historic Mujibnagar Day. 

Director (Student Welfare) Prof Md Nazrul Islam presided over the programme. 

Prof Mohammad Asaduzzaman Chowdhury of the Department of Mechanical Engineering, President of the Teachers Association Prof Utpal Kumar Das and General Secretary of Officers Association Mohammad Sajjad Hossain Mollah also spoke during this time.

An essay competition on the significance of the historic Mujibnagar Day was also held with the participation of the students of the university.
