Dhaka University (DU) Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr Niaz Ahmed Khan urged students to spend their time building a strong foundation in education instead of wasting it on group politics and partisan attachments.
He said that students can bring glory to themselves and their institutions at national and international levels through their talent, knowledge, skills, behaviour, and attitude.
He made these remarks as the chief guest at the orientation programme for first-year undergraduate students of the Department of International Relations at Dhaka University on Monday.
The programme was presided over by Professor Dr A S M Ali Ashraf, Chairman of the Department of International Relations. Pro-Vice Chancellor (Administration) Professor Dr Sayema Haque Bidisha and Dean of the Faculty of Social Sciences Professor Dr Tayebur Rahman spoke as special guests. Additionally, Professor Dr Delwar Hossain and Professor Dr Lailufar Yasmin also addressed the event.
Vice-Chancellor said, “Students have got the opportunity to get admitted to this historic university through their knowledge and hard work.”
He added, “There are huge opportunities for building interpersonal and international communication skills, acquiring proficiency in different languages, along with pursuing higher studies.”
The students can become skilled human resources by properly utilizing these opportunities.
He said that a number of seminars, conferences, workshops, and cultural programmes are held regularly, and through these activities, students are able to expand their networks, which play a pivotal role in enhancing their knowledge and skills.
