A group of Dhaka University students, protesting at the Dhaka Medical College Hospital where Ducsu vice president and his followers are now undergoing treatment, demanded resignation of the DU VC professor Md Akhtaruzzaman for making a comment on engineering killing as part of conspiracy.

The DU VC Akhtaruzzaman, also the president of Dhaka University Central Students' Union (Ducsu) went to DMCH on Sunday night to see Ducsu Vice President Nurul Haque Nur who got injured following attacks allegedly carried out by activists of Chhatra League and Muktijuddha Mancha on Sunday.

During their conversation, the VC told Nur that he came to know that there was a plan to make a major incident. “I have seen some photos, outsiders- who are they? They may have demanded a body by capturing you inside. You may have been victims of conspiracy,” the VC told Nur at the hospital on Sunday night.

But it sparked widespread protest from the students.

When asked over what he really meant as demand for a body by capturing Nur inside a room, Md Akhtaruzzaman said that the proctor went to the Ducsu building following information of attack.

“When he [proctor] went there, Nur was inside and the door was closed. The proctor waited for long, but they did not opened the door. The first task when such incident takes place is to take the injured to hospital immediately as delay can lead to unwanted situations,” he said over phone.

The VC claimed he indicated loss of lives if delay is made in taking the injured to hospitals.

He also claimed those, who wanted to orchestrate killings in campus, may have been involved with this. “We are consistent in making the university campus as peaceful,” he said.
