court in Dhaka today placed Sudip Chakroborthy, an associate professor of the Department of Theatre and Performance Studies at Dhaka University (DU), on a three-day remand in a case filed over allegations of abetting his student, Munira Mahjabin Mimo, to commit suicide.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Manjurul Islam passed the order after police produced the accused before the court and sought a three-day remand for further interrogation.
Police arrested Sudip Chakraborty from the city's North Badda area on April 26. He was sent to jail the following day after being shown arrested in the case.
Munira Mahjabin Mimo was found dead in her rented flat in Badda on the morning of April 26. Her body was later sent to Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) for an autopsy.
According to case documents, a handwritten note was recovered from the scene, while her WhatsApp messages reportedly suggested that she had an intimate relationship with the teacher.
The victim's father has alleged that the teacher instigated her to take her own life.
