Snatchers allegedly beaten two students of Dhaka University in Ramna Kali Mandir area in Dhaka on early Sunday.
The injured were identified as Sourav Sarkar, 25, student of the craft department and Sumit, 23, and student of sculpture department of the university. Both of them are residents of Jagannath Hall.
According to the senior students of the dormitory, the duo, accompanied by others, went out of the hall to visit Durga Puja mandaps at night.
On the way to their dormitory, snatchers halted their ways near Ramna Kali Mandir area and tried to loot their valuables.
As they tried resist, they hijacker beaten them mercilessly leaving them injured at around 2:00am.
One of the attackers also stabbed Sourav in the stomach with a sharp weapon.
Returning to the hall, the duo went to their seniors, who first took them to the university’s medical centre.
Md Bachchu Miah, in-charge of Dhaka Medical College Hospital police outpost said, Sourav is currently undergoing treatment at the hospital.
Quoting physicians, he said that Sourav’s condition was critical.
