The recent unraveling of HSC pass students getting admitted into Dhaka University through unfair means is quite unnerving. The best education institution in the country has succumbed to corruption. This is undoubtedly a crisis because it is from here that the best minds of the country come out to serve the country. Such a level of corruption in the administration of such a prestigious place is truly disconcerting news.

A recent report published in this daily says that the disciplinary council of Dhaka University has recommended life-time expulsion for its 67 students and temporary expulsion for 22 students on various charges. Of the 67 students, 63 have been recommended to be expelled over admission forgery and four for drug abuse and arms possession.

This shows poorly on the administration of the university. There are definitely loop holes in the administration system through which students are being able to do these criminal activities. Possession of arms is a serious crime. This coming from a student of the most reputable university of Bangladesh, leaves no scope to wonder about the level of corruption and irregularities which the educational institutes of our country suffer from.

Expelling these students is undoubtedly

a laudable initiative but keeps

several questions unanswered

Expelling these students is undoubtedly a laudable initiative but keeps several questions unanswered. What is to happen to the people who forged the admission of the students in the first place? Will there be an investigation from the authorities to find out these vested individuals? Is this the first time such forgeries have taken place in the institution?

The authorities concerned should take stern action and appropriate steps to find out who are taking advantage of Dhaka University and earning black money off the hands of students. The sooner this problem can be solved the better will it be for the educational sector of the country.
