A student of Dhaka University (DU) drowned while taking bath in the swimming pool of the university on Monday afternoon.
The deceased was identified as Muhammad Sawad, 19, a first year student of Philosophy department and a resident of Haji Muhammad Mohsin Hall of the university.
The incident happened around 2:00 pm, said DU Physical Education Centre director Md Shahjahan Ali.
Two students named Sohag and Sagar, who were present at the scene, said that due to the scorching heat wave, we went down to take bath with our friends in the central swimming pool of Dhaka University around noon. At this time, suddenly Sawad drowned in the water. After that, he was lifted from water and pressured on the stomach. At that time he was breathing. Later, when Sawad was brought to Dhaka Medical College Hospital the doctor declared him dead.
In-charge of the DMCH police outpost Md Bachchu Mia said the body has been kept at the morgue of DMCH for autopsy and has been reported to the concerned police station.
