Dhaka University Inter-Department (Boys) and Inter Hall (Girls) Cricket Tournament 2020 began at the university central playground on Monday.
Vice Chancellor of Dhaka University Professor Dr Mohammad Akhteruzzaman, as the chief guest, inaugurated the competition in the morning.
Advisor of DU Physical Education Centre Professor Dr Ashim Sarkar was also present at the function, chaired by the President of the DU Cricket Committee Professor Dr M Hasibur Rashid.
82 teams from different departments and institutes are participating in the competition while five women’s team also participating in the tournament.
In Male category, the teams are formed on department basis while the women’s teams have been formed on department basis.
Director (acting) Md Shahjahan Ali, Chairman of various departments, Provost of different halls, Senior Teachers and officials of the university were present. The opening match was held in men’s category, between Islamic History and Culture Department team and History Department team while Sufia Kamal Hall team and Shamsun Nahar Hall team played the first match in women’s category on the opening day.
Professor Akhtaruzzaman urges the students to maintain physical and mental well-being by participating in co-educational activities, especially sports, in addition to education.
