The Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) has taken stringent security measures ahead of Tuesday’s Dhaka University Central Students’ Union (DUCSU) election, said Commissioner SM Sazzat Ali.

“The police had been preparing for a week to ensure order during the polls. We expect the security to be very strong tomorrow (Tuesday),” he told reporters in front of TSC on Monday.

According to him, security measures include check-posts at campus gates, regular patrols, deployment of officers with body cameras, SWAT teams, bomb disposal squads, intelligence units, CCTV surveillance and patrol by special forces.

Members of the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) and Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) will also join the duty.

A total of 1,771 police officers are currently on duty, while another 2,096 will be deployed on Tuesday. “The security plan will remain in force until 6 pm on September 10. There is no chance of any unwanted incident,” the commissioner assured.

He urged voters and others present on the campus not to break laws and anyone attempting to create disorder would be handed over to the police.

Traffic restrictions will be enforced in and around Shahbagh, High Court, Nilkhet, Shahidullah Hall and Polashi roads during the election period.

Commuters are advised to use alternative routes.

Besides, an arms ban has been imposed in the DMP area from 8 pm on September 8 until 12 pm on September 11.
