The female students of Dhaka University (DU)brought out a procession at 12midnight on Monday, commemorating July 14, 2024.
They held rally at Raju Sculptor of the university.
As per the administration's direction, the female dormitories were opened. The students brought out processions from their respective halls, chanting slogans, ''Kothay Kothay Bangla Char, Bangla Ki Tor Baap Dadar'', Lakho Shoheeder Kena Deshta Karo Baaper Na'', Tui Rajaker, Tui Rajaker.
Around 12:30AM on Tuesday, DU Vice Chancellor Niaz Ahmed Khan declared July 14 as ''Dhaka University Women Students Day'' in recognition of the role of women in the July uprising and designated July 17 as ''Anti-Terrorism Day'' to mark the day students resisted the Bangladesh Chhatra League.
He said, "The contribution of the students in July was outstanding. We are committed to that. In recognition of their contribution, we declare 14th July as 'Dhaka University Women Students Day' and the students' resistance against Chhatra League on 17th July as 'Anti-Terrorism Day'."
On July 14, last year, students from the women’s residential halls at Dhaka University, particularly Begum Rokeya Hall and Shamsunnahar Hall, conducted a protest march to protest remarks by then prime minister Sheikh Hasina on the quota reform protests.
On Monday night, 'July Women’s Day' was celebrated at Dhaka University through various programmes, recognising the role of women during the July uprising.
The event began with the singing of the national anthem at the Central Shaheed Minar at 6PM.
