DU celebrates Flag Hoisting Day

Teachers, students and officials of Dhaka University observed Flag Hoisting Day yesterday with due respect. Marking the day, DU Vice-chancellor Professor Dr Md Akhtaruzzaman inaugurated a programme on the historic Bottala premises adjacent to Arts Building.

DU Pro VC (Education) Professor Dr Nasreen Ahmed presided over the ceremony while Pro VC (Administration) Muhammad Samad, Treasurer Professor Dr Md Kamal Uddin, President of the Teachers' Association Dr ASM Maqsood Kamal and General Secretary Dr Md Nizamul Huq Bhuiyan were present as special guest. Programme Coordinator and Dean of the Faculty of Arts Professor Dr Abu Md Delwar Hossain delivered the welcome speech. DUCSU AGS Md Saddam Hussein participated in the discussion and Registrar Md Enamuzzaman gave vote of thanks. Assistant Professor Sharmin Jahan Chowdhury conducted the programme. Deans of various faculties, principals of different halls, teachers, students, officers and staff were also present, among others.

Professor Akhtaruzzaman paid deep tribute to the immortal memory of the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, saying that March is a month of our independence, sovereignty and glory. On this day in 1971, the national flag of independent Bangladesh was hoisted at a massive students gathering at Dhaka University campus. He urged the students to realize the significance of this historic day and said the importance and significance of this day should be spread among new generation. Highlighting the contribution of Dhaka University in the liberation war, the VC said that the new generation, should have liberal, non-communal and humane values .

After the discussion, noted artiste of Swadhin Bangla Betar Kendra Indra Mohan Rajbangshi, presented some of his folk songs.
