Upholding the 100-year legacy, the Faculty of Business Studies under University of Dhaka has undertaken timely measures to evolve to online learning and remote teaching during the ongoing Covid-19 to continue the pace of providing quality education to its students.
This is one of many stepping stones & first efforts by the Premier Institute of Bangladesh to connect towards the future in empowering the students to further unleash their potentials through inclusive connectivity access.
Faculty of Business Studies, University of Dhaka, has partnered with Grameenphone to leverage their nationwide 4G connectivity, and strong distribution to hand over SIM cards to the students’ doorsteps, keeping them connected to what matters to them most.
This forward leaning step by Faculty of Business Studies will go a long way to inspire other public universities to explore such collaboration opportunities and create longer term sustainable solution to keep students engaged and continue to build the right momentum.
The partnership was announced on Thursday during an Webinar titled “Connecting Future: Unleashing Potentials in Higher Education” organized by Faculty of Business Studies of University of Dhaka. Honorable Vice-Chancellor of the University of Dhaka, Prof. Dr. Md. Akhtaruzzaman along with Pro-Vice-Chancellor (administration) Prof. Dr. Muhammad Samad; Pro-Vice-Chancellor (academic) Prof. Dr. A.S.M. Maksud Kamal and Yasir Azman, CEO of Grameenphone attended the session. The session was moderated by Prof. Dr. Muhammad Abdul Moyeen, Honorable Dean (Acting) of Faculty of Business Studies of University of Dhaka. The program was also attended by Honorable Deans of other faculties & Chairman, Directors and Faculties of Business Studies.
Dr. Md. Akhtaruzzaman, Vice-Chancellor, University of Dhaka, stated, “Due to the COVID-19 outbreak, we have been facing numerous challenges. The education sector has also been affected. Continuous progress in the education sector is a must for the development of the country. We thank Grameenphone for this initiative, and we hope they will continue this on a wider scale.”
“The entire world has come to a standstill because of the COVID-19 pandemic. However, in this era of the fourth industrial revolution, through connectivity, we have been able to do the necessary. Collaboration between industry and academia is needed for the development of students. We would like to thank Grameenohone for this initiative. We hope that they will continue their endeavor”, added Dr. A.S.M. Maksud Kamal, Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Academic), University of Dhaka.
Adding to that sentiment, Prof. Dr. Muhammad Abdul Moyeen, Dean (Acting) of Faculty of Business Studies, stated, "While opting for online learning and emergency remote teaching, we have been facing numerous challenges, including affordability of data connection for the students. This partnership with Grameenphone, I believe, will be instrumental in overcoming the challenges".

As teachers and learners will become more technology savvy and more people will seek learning at their convenience and comfort at an affordable cost, the demand for online education in Bangladesh might increase the country's digital learning infrastructure.
