Dhaka University (DU) has introduced special admission benefits for the family members of those who were martyred or injured during the historic July-August mass uprising. The decision was officially announced by the university authorities through a press release issued on Monday.
According to the announcement, these facilities will be available for the admission process of the first-year undergraduate programme under the 2024-2025 academic session. The decision was recently taken at a meeting of the university’s deans' committee.
As per the decision, the spouse, sons and daughters of those who were officially recognised as martyred or injured during the uprising will be eligible for these benefits. In cases where no spouse or children exist, the opportunity will be extended to the siblings of the victims.
The university authorities said this initiative has been taken to honour the sacrifices made during the student-led mass uprising and to support the families who endured losses during that crucial period of the country’s history.
DU authorities believe this special admission arrangement will not only preserve the memory of those brave individuals but also help their families access higher education opportunities at one of the country’s most prestigious institutions.
The university has asked interested applicants from the families of the martyred or injured to contact the DU admission office with proper documents during the upcoming admission session. Specific details regarding application procedures and required documents will be notified soon through the university website and official notice boards.
This initiative has been widely appreciated by various quarters, including student leaders and teachers, as a step towards recognising the contributions of those involved in the historic movement and extending necessary support to their families.
